The Kraken King Part I: The Kraken King and the Scribbling Spinster

The Kraken King Part I: The Kraken King and the Scribbling Spinster - Meljean Brook Now this is what I'm interested in. A questionable anti-hero who is a rebel and may be fighting for the good of his people, how can a romantic resist? Ariq is known as the Kraken King. He lives in a place where people are left alone. This is a protective community for those who are of all sorts of backgrounds. When Ariq's home is attacked in a manner which makes no sense, he begins his investigation.

While trying to figure out what is going on, Zenobia Fox drops into his lap. Zenobia is a writer who fictionalizes her brother's crazy escapades. Now she's in danger and trying to hide her identity. When these two meet, the chemistry is instant. Of all the steampunk books in this series, this taste of The Kraken King is my favourite. The characters are interesting and they work well together. Zenobia is smart and can connect the dots easily. This impresses Ariq and they start to bond.

The latest mystery in this fascinating world built by Ms. Brook is intriguing. It seems Ms. Brook is still withholding the main event of this series. The previous books were all setups to this one which finally brings about the beginning of the reveal. It is frustrating to have this book broken into a serial so that only one part was available. Just as the story gets good, it's done! It does make me want to read the entire book and I can't wait for it to be available for purchase.

The steampunk in this story is well done. Ms. Brook does a great job blending it into this world and making it believable. An introduction to a new character, Ariq is also delightful. Since I'm a fan of tentacles, it makes this story sexier. If only Ariq boasts real tentacles instead of a tattoo on his sexy body. This is a start to a great book and recommended for steampunk readers who enjoy intrigue.
