Mercy is going to send poor Adam into an early grave. Well, Adam is an old werewolf, but his worry about Mercy will probably kill him. Everyone in this book is right, Mercy is lucky and she sticks to her idealistic morale. Seriously, does she think she's feline? Does she have nine lives? No, she does not. Coyote may have more than nine lives, but Mercy is no Coyote. She may be almost Coyote's daughter. One day that isn't going to be good enough.
This latest installment of Mercy is good - definitely a 3.5 star. Mercy is once again a kick ass. She also gets her ass handed to her yet again. This story seems kind of incomplete. Or at least it feels like a filler between novels. We are still stuck in the limbo with the Fae withdrawn yet no further movement forward. The werewolves are now under attack and yet it is not clear who is behind it. We have a pat answer for one but not the other enemy.
It would be nice to learn more about the Grey Lords. It would also be good to learn about Coyote and Mercy's walker abilities. It was nice to learn more about the Vampire Queen's background. It is pivotal yet it does feel a bit from the left field. While Ms. Briggs does explain how and why, it felt too easy an answer.
Still, I'm a Mercy and Adam fan. It's a pleasure to return to them again. Recommended for urban fantasy readers who enjoy secretive vampires, alpha werewolves, mysterious fae and sassy humans.
